The story of madurpura begins when Rana Vaidya, a Peer of the kin of Emperor Akbar, was waiting for the arrival of the emir of Jaipur, Babu. He went to the city gates with his family and friends but the crowd kept on blocking the way and kept on asking "where the leader is going?" Babu told them that he was going to the war field but the crowd did not let him go. Rana Vaidya became frustrated and decided to challenge the leadership of Babu. On reaching Bali, Babu informed his father that he will challenge the emperor to prove himself and for this purpose he would name Rana as his successor.

Rana got scared and decided not to go for that particular battle on the grounds that he had heard that the emir of Jaipur was going to attack Madurpura. But on reaching Madurpura, he noticed that there were many army camps around and thought that the time for battle had arrived. On that very day, on the occasion of madurpura day, the whole Bali society gathered at the bazaar square and made a point of celebrating madurpura.

There were so many festivities that went on that it became a very interesting day. The whole Bali society celebrated by burning matsanga. The women used to wear silk girdles and decorated their faces with different colours. In order to make it more interesting, they gathered fruits and vegetable which they displayed on a flat surface like a manga. When it was time for Rana Vaidya to challenge Babu for the post of king, Rana challenged Babu to a horse race.
