States With Online Sports Betting
Whether you're a diehard sports fan or just like to have
a few bets to keep yourself entertained, online sports betting has become a
popular way to wager. It can be done from the comfort of your own home, and it
can be more convenient than traveling to a land-based betting venue. While some
states still require in-person registration, many states have legalized online
sports betting. Below are the states with sports betting available for
residents, and some details on each.
Montana's sports betting market is small. With a
population of around a hundred thousand, the state is only a minor part of the
overall U.S. market. While there aren't many betting options available,
sportsbooks are still a viable option for bettors. In addition to the
sportsbooks located at casinos, the state is home to a lottery operated by
Intralot. In 2022, the state will also open up a regulated online betting
market.
There are nine online sportsbooks currently operating in 777powernet, and plans are in the works to add two more in the near future. Online
sportsbooks must partner with local casinos to operate. However, it's not yet
clear whether Kansas will offer in-person betting. The state is also home to
five land-based casinos, and residents voted in favor of constructing five
more.
Indiana launched its online sports betting market on
October 3, 2019, and there are currently 13 online sportsbooks operating in the
state. During the first three months of operation, the state took in more than
$7 billion in bets.
Iowa, one of the fastest-growing states in the country,
launched its sports betting market in August. It also has one of the best
operator-friendly setups in the country. In January 2019, Governor Kim Reynolds
signed SF 617, allowing the state to license 41 different mobile apps. While
not all operators offer all promotional offers, it's important to check out all
of them and find the best ones for you.
Illinois will launch its online betting market in June
2020. It's also among the top five states in tax revenue, and it has one of the
most populated populations in the country. The state also launched an in-person
betting market in March 2020.
Maryland launched its online sports betting market on
Wednesday at 9 a.m. ET, though the operators went offline all day Tuesday.
There was a weird soft launch period for the operators, though, and they
re-launched on Wednesday at 9 a.m. They also expect to launch at least five
apps in the beginning.
New Jersey has 21 online sportsbooks available to
residents. The state's sports betting market has a room for about 20 more. New
Jersey has one of the most well-established sports betting markets in the
country, and it also accepts new betting exchange models.
Virginia also has sports betting available to residents,
but only online. There are two locations in the state that allow in-person
sports betting, including the Caesars Book at Chase Field and the Footprint
Center.
